A nine-year-old girl in Israel recites Russian verse – well, what a big deal! But just listen to her intonation and don’t miss the understanding of the texts and the fun she gets!

Ora surely is a lovely and capable girl while our editor Alexander Kuchersky is a good teacher who is fond of poetry himself. And the fact that the poetry in their parents’ native language helps our children to improve their memory and to expand the vocabulary in this language is really important. But we are quite sure that its impact upon the development of personality and aesthetic taste formation is simply invaluable. The more so that in Israeli schools verse is never learned by heart and barely read.

My children speak Russian but I failed to convey to them my love for Russian poetry. They are still considered "Russians» and could have been even more alienated from their peers though it is a poor consolation.
